ISLAS

Titino Uros Island:
The island is located 10 km. from the port of Puno, approximately 30 minutes away. It is actually made of almost 40 tiny islands built over hundreds of years from the totora reed that grows on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Traditionally, the islanders live from fishing and trade with the inhabitants of other islands. The men are skilful totora reed raft constructors and conductors and the women are expert weavers. Traditional fishing has gained importance in the island as an activity where the visitor can participate together with the native fishing for species such as the carachi and the pejerrey using ancestral techniques.

Amantani Island:
Amantani Island is located east of the Capachica Peninsula. Its population conserves their costumes and ancestral way of life. During a visit it is usual to see several men and women knitting typical attires. This island is unique for the awesome views that can be observed from its hills and for its beautiful beaches.

Taquile Island:
Taquile Island is 12 square kilometers, has an altitude between 3,818 and 4,069 meters above sea level and is part of the Titicaca’s National Reserve. Descendants of the Quechua culture settled in this beautiful scenery. It has unique attractions in living culture, nature and pre-Inca archaeological remains. The visitor can learn a lot from the community in the arts of spinning and knitting, a fine and laborious textile with symbolic and colourful decorations that reflect their beliefs, traditions and way of life. The enchanting life among nature may be enjoyed in 2-hour walks guided by a member of the community.
